DCLG: Ministerial Correspondence
The Challenge
CLG challenged Unipart Expert Practices (UEP) to improve efficiency, cut costs, document lessons learned and define the value CLG might further gain from implementing a Lean methodology across other divisions.
The Results
Within 12-weeks, significant demonstrable improvements were achieved:
- The restructuring of the Ministerial Support Team realised a cost benefit saving of £146,000 per annum (which alone represented a 190% Return on Investment)
- 77% of cases were resolved within 15 days (up from an average baseline of 48.15%) with all trial cases being dealt with in 12.9 days
- The quality of draft work improved significantly, resulting in a reduction in time spent reworking and redrafting
- Significant up-skilling of Lean Champions and MSU staff in Lean tools and techniques (to enable sustained continuous improvement)
